There's nothing better than a weekend at home. The first weekend with no plans in a while, the first sunshine to last more than a fleeting few minutes in over a month. What better way to start such a weekend than with comfort food? My comfort food of choice: Bangers & Mash. Any good Brit has a family recipe for this one. MPC introduced me to the wonderful local British imports market where we can get Flakes, Crunchies, Worcestershire- and bacon-flavoured crisps, and really good banger sausages! With an episode of Babylon 5 on, yummy comfort food, a beer, and the cat between us, twas the perfect way to settle into the weekend.
6 pork banger sausages
1 onion, coarsely chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
olive oil
salt & pepper
ketchup
Worcestershire sauce
~1 cup water
mashed potatoes
veggies (peas, broccoli, or green beans)
good beer
Saute the onion, garlic, salt & pepper in olive oil til onions are soft, then smush them to the edges of the pan. Line up the sausages in the pan and let cook on med-high on one side until nicely browned. Turn them over, repeat. Add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and water and mix it all up. Turn down the heat and let simmer til the gravy looks like a good consistency and you're ready to eat it. Serve over mashed potatoes with a side of veggies and a beer.
